AP reporting Benoit had Brain Injury

Written by Lex on September 5th, 2007 in Uncategorized.

The Associated Press is reporting that multiple concussions injured Chris Benoit’s brain. The injury reportedly affected Benoit’s emotions and the level of injury that he had could have cause depression and irrational behavior that could have contributed to the tragedy. You can find the whole story linked to this post title.

In my opinion, this is not good for the wrestling industry, worse than the steroid issue. Nancy Disgrace and the rest of the media will put the steroid issue on the back burner and accuse the sport of wrestling as the cause of the Benoit tragedy. I am interested to hear every one’s opinions.

First off, you right, the media is gonna bash pro wrestling as such a dangerous “sport”. As much as I hate to see something that I grew up loving, I think its starting to become like boxing–a mere shadow of its former self.

And for the record for anybody else who posts, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let’s not start another flame war over the Benoit case. I say let’s just remember the man as one of the best damn wrestlers out there.

If you want to be literal, the wrestling industry DID cause Benoit’s injury.

Is it the industry’s fault, though? No. Not at all.

  3. Shane Rollins Says:

Concussions are far from wrestling’s biggest problem health wise. I doubt there will be much said about this because of the NFL and how many players there have more concussions then Benoit ever did. If the media brought up concussions then they would have to take the NFL to task and they can’t do any wrong now can they?

I personally don’t think the media will make a big deal of this as it will mean them going back on the whole steriods thing.

  5. Kanadian Says:

i dont see the media making a big deal of this at all either. they were so sure that the wwe made their stars take staroids and that is what killed the benoits that they’ll just pretend this analysis of the brain never happened.

but look at the move benoit did thousands of times, the headbut. he almost never blocked it and always sold the head completely; it’s like mick foely said about people blocking chair shots, he said he would like to see more people do it as it does lead to serious head injurys, like this one.

Damn Kandian, that was a damn good point you made! You right, every match Chris did, the flying head butt–I mean to repeatedly do that throughout his career repeatedly…damn!

Y’know, the concussion thing sounds very reasonable, but I believe I’ve heard everything already when it comes to overblowing the Benoit issue and it’s primary cause. People jump in to blame the industry without considering his diary or his mental state following Eddie’s death; Kanyon blogs after taking WWE’s issued statement out of context; Nancy Graceless panders to Chyna and Mero like a total condescending bitch, while getting her facts askew. Will it ever get back to normal?

I think people need to read what Gregory Helms wrote on his MySpace, and linked to there. It is really thoughtful and sobering.
