TNA In Talks With Bobby Knight?
Written by sideshowraheem on February 7th, 2008 in Uncategorized.

I suspect this is a TNA work from the mind of Vince Russo but I’ll post it anyway because shoot or work it’s embarrassing for TNA. TNA sent out a text alert yesterday to there “TNA Mobile” subscribers(all 3 of them) saying that they’ve opened discussions with legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight. Then later the same day TNA released this statement via there web site.
Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling is offering its first-ever Head Coaching job to Bob Knight, the all-time winningest Division I men’s basketball coach known as much for his coaching genius as his fiery temper, who resigned Monday in the middle of the season as the Texas Tech coach.
“TNA Wrestling was shocked, like the rest of the sports world, to hear Coach Knight resigned,” said Jeff Jarrett, co-founder of TNA Wrestling, who was a high school and junior college basketball player in Tennessee before becoming a professional wrestler. “Coach Knight is a sports icon and we’d be thrilled and honored to have him join the ranks, to further build TNA Wrestling into a national power, much like he did for Texas Tech.”
Knight, 67, has been a head coach for 42 years at three Division I schools: Army, Indiana and Texas Tech. Knight won three national championships, including his 1976 Indiana team that went undefeated, a feat no team has done since. In 1984, he coached the U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal in Los Angeles. TNA Wrestling has a lighter schedule than college basketball which should appeal to Coach Knight, Jarrett said, and TNA not only endorses chair-throwing, but has an endless supply of steel chairs.
Although I’m not a college basketball fan I’ve seen several interviews with Bobby Knight and he doesn’t strike me as the type of person that would want to sully his name and legacy in college basketball for a job with TNA or any professional wrestling organization for that matter. He doesn’t need the money, he’s not the type of guy who needs a camera and a spotlight on him 24hrs a day so I really doubt this TNA storyline has any truth to it. Starting rumors like this to make a few headlines is just stupid and makes TNA as a company and the wrestling industry as a whole look stupid. Just to rap this whole thing up here’s a video from the most recent “TNA Today” in the clip Jeremy Borash and everyone’s favorite Don West try to sell us all on this stupid gimmick that will never happen.

You can’t argue with Bobby Knights record he holds the record for college carrier victories, his overall records was 902–371, he won 3 NCAA championships, 11 Big Ten Championships, 6 Big Ten Coach of the Year awards. He’s Definitely one of the top 5 coaches of all time and one of the most recognizable names in American sports and if TNA could actually get him to show up it would be a great for them but if they where really in negotiations with him they wouldn’t be making it public that how you know it’s bullshit.

yeah, this strikes me as a huge work to help get tna to become more of a household name. they’re trying to get the average person to become aware of tna, like they know the wwe. if people hear some buzz about bob knight going to a wrestling company, they might just tune in to see what the fuss is about. at least that’s probly what tna thinks. i dunno if it’s gonna boost their ratings at all, but we’ll see.
for the record though, i would hate to see bobby knight join any pro wrestling organization. i love basketball, and i love pro wrestling, but to mix a historically amazing coach like bob knight and tna just strikes me as wrong. and sideshow is right, nothing about this deal strikes me as something that bobby knight would do.

Why does TNA think they have to tie themselfs with other sports? College baskeball coach? What’s next? Get Golf player Chi Chi Rodriguez (Who happens to live in my town now) on the Impact Zone?
Also why bring up Brock Lesnar? He never wrestled in TNA, never will, why mention him, we all know him for his time in WWE. If they want to do that might as well tell people to tune in on Mondays to RAW also. And last but not least, ODB T shirts? And in camoflage? The only why they are getting rid of them is giving them away.
TNA needs to lose Russo, that cocksucker Borash(he is one for real.) And “Mr. Heart Attack” Don West because the way they are going they are going to lose the few fans they have with their stupidity.

Nagual–
Doing the Brock Lesnar promotion was actually really positive for TNA because Kurt Angle was then interviewed for all the UFC 81 buildup and shown at the fights. That’s free promotion for the company…
Also, I think ODB is way over, hence the t-shirts…don’t see a problem with that. The Bobby Knight thing is quite embarrassing though, as if he cares about TNA.

This whole Bobby Knight thing is just a cheap way to try and get TNA mentioned on ESPN again.

Texas Tech is a national power house? I wish I would have gotten the notice about that from someone. I follow college basketball and the only reason Texas Tech was getting notice was because Knight was their head coach other then that they are just another college basketball team in Texas.
