Jade’s video blog: eBay and Paypal protest

Written by Jade on March 21st, 2008 in Uncategorized.

I know this isn’t exactly wrestling related, but I wanted everyone on PWB to know about this. I’m sure at least some of you use eBay and/or Paypal, and I don’t want you to get scammed like I just did.

Please continue to spread the word. Share this video with others, or make your own.

the scam sucks, but I ALWAYS get tracking info and delivery confirmation. It’s less than a dollar, and it is invaluable in so many ways. You should make it a habit.

  2. Diamond D Says:

I always give tracking numbers and always request it. It is the safest way to protect yourself from this scam. I just watched your video and I understand from watching you that you are bitter. Rightfully so. I would be pissed as well. But disputing every package that does not have a tracking number and scamming innocent people the way that you have been scammed is not the answer. Do you really want many others to feel as you do? You really arent thinking clearly because you are heated at the moment. You dont want to hear this but the answer is to just simply start protecting yourself anf only buy from people who will give you a tracking number and always get one whether they buy it or not. It is only 50 cents extrat to priority shipping. I too do alot of buying and selling and have always made this my poicy and have never been scammed. I know you are upset but dont hurt other innocent people th esame you have been hurt because you are upset. Take care of yourself.

Diamond D- I don’t know if my point came across as I intended. I just want them to claim it, then let it be resolved (seller keeps the money). If it happens X amount of times, Paypal/eBay would be forced to rethink it.

    Jade–

I fixed it for you. Go look at your post again and see how easy it is to embed youtube vids on wordpress…

Every package I’ve ever gotten had a tracking number on it. Every one I’ve ever sent out has one on it. That way I can see where it is and when it gets to it’s location. Sorry to hear about what happened to you. There are so many bad sorts of folks these days.

Does anyone have a Smackdown : Shut your mouth PS2 game in good shape they would be willing to part with?

  6. Lex Luthor Says:

USPS tracking blows, though. It never works. It’ll tell you like two days afterword that it arrived–I guess that’s the government for you. So if they aren’t sending via USPS or FedEX, the tracking is not useful.

  7. Lex Luthor Says:

By the way, it is a paypal glitch. I’ve been in that guy’s shoes before when I moved. I went into EBay and PayPal and changed my addresses, but when I went to pay for the thing, it still sent the guy my old address. Luckily I was able to e-mail the dude before he sent my item out–I saw the wrong address when it e-mailed me the receipt.

As the people above said, I would definitely make sure to require tracking and all that. As useless as USPS tracking is, it’s at least a legal record. Also, on the buying end, the insurance is always a good idea.

  8. Jade Says:

    Thanks, Lex (for the embed).

Mollie- You’re in the minority, if you’re using tracking. At least among groups like me that sell our DVDs and video games all the time.

Lex- Yes, USPS tracking is shit.

No buyers want to pay for it (it’s something like $0.50-0.80, I don’t remember), and a lot of my auctions end for $1. It’s almost not worth it to buy. Paypal gives you the option to buy it through their site, but I don’t own a printer, so that option is out the window.

I had the same thing happen as you did with the wrong address when we moved from Orlando to Oklahoma. Problem is, this guy’s address displayed as someone who bought something from him. It wasn’t even his, ever. That’s just messed up.

eBay used to have a different policy entirely. If the buyer didn’t pay for insurance, it was automatically the buyer’s fault if it was lost in the mail (or never shipped). They always ruled for the seller. Now, it’s the exact opposite. There’s a healthy median here, and they a long way from it.

The part that REALLY gets me, is that the guy who did this to me has a history of it in his eBay feedback. He leaves people positive feedback when he receives the item, then files a dispute with Paypal to get his money back. I’m not the first person he’s done it to, and Paypal doesn’t care!

  9. Jade Says:

Oh, and I didn’t notice this guy’s history in his feedback before shipping because he had (and still has, thanks to me) 100% positive feedback.

    thanks

  11. theoriginaljd Says:

I know I haven’t said anything in awhile - but doesn’t your video Jade say that it was a $20 dispute? If that’s the case then it isn’t asking too much to add .80 to that for the tracking number.

I understand you being upset especially about the history, but there is a system in place to protect yourself and when you choose not to partake in that system (even if you’d be the only person in the history of ebay who does it) you still open yourself up to this happening.

  12. DynamiteKid Says:

I always pay the 85ยข myself. It’s worth it not to deal with this kind of shit.

And LEx, I’ve shipped packages for years with the USPS and never had in issue with the tracking info being wrong.

  13. Jade Says:

theoriginaljd- If I’d known the policy, I would have done it. I’ve never known that to be an issue, especially when I’ve never received a package with one.

On top of that, most of my DVD auctions ended for $1. If the buyer doesn’t want to pay for the tracking, I’d only be making $0.19 per auction. That’s not worth it, to me.

This one was a rare exception that he bought 7 DVDs, and shipping was $6 (too heavy for first class, had to go priority). If I’d known the policy, I would have gladly paid to avoid this problem.

  14. Jade Says:

Also, doing some research today, it turns out that eBay is changing their site in May. Sellers will no longer be able to leave feedback for buyers, and seller fees will be approaching 40-50% of the item’s value (not to mention Paypal fees). They’re trying to push off the small sellers and move from flea market to mall environment (kind of like Amazon). Do some research on YouTube for eBay Boycott and you’ll see it everywhere!

  15. mollie d. Says:

    Lex,

Man I’ve never had a problem with being able to track my packages. It is usually on time with what is on the computer. Now that also depends on the person putting the info in. If they are sorry about doing their job then you won’t know anything. But I know this guy here fairly well and he does right by all of us on this route.

If I sell something for a dollar I won’t bother with buying tracking. But for a $20 item hell yeah because any shit can happen. Better to be safe these days than sorry.

  16. Lex Luthor Says:

    Dynamite–

Whenever I use USPS tracking, it’s always way behind. I’m not saying it doesn’t work, it’s just crappy compared to UPS and FedEX, which usually are up to date as of that evening. USPS always seems to be several days behind when I’ve used it.

  17. GZadmin Says:

    Lex,

I absolutely HATE USPS. They are ALWAYS about 2 (or more) days behind in their tracking info. Not only that, I have checked a tracking number about 14 days after I received the item and it was STILL showing as intransit and not delivered.

  18. GZadmin Says:

Oh and long time no chat. Look forward to being back on the site….how you been Lex?

Hey Lex, can you email me? I want to talk with you about Jeff Hardy and possibly being on the Podcast with some info…

    GZA
