TNA Video Game Update

Written by Jade on September 21st, 2008 in Opinion, TNA, Video Games.

Just thought I’d let everyone know how it’s doing on my end of the country. The local GameStop sold all 30 copies they had. None have been traded in. Everybody who’s come back in has raved about how fun it is.

I’m rather shocked. Now I can’t wait for my copy from GameFly.

My buddies at the store saved me a copy of the DVD that comes with a pre-order. I thought everyone might be interested in the matches they put on it.

The first match is AJ Styles vs Petey Williams vs Chris Sabin in an Ultimate X for the X Title. It was taped in January 2005. It seems TNA realized that the X Division is how they get more fans. I wonder why the TV show doesn’t reflect this.

Match two is ANOTHER Ultimate X Match– XXX (Senshi and Elix Skipper) vs LAX from about a year ago. Phenomenal match! Again, if they know this draws, why isn’t it on TV?

Okay, the third match goes back to “stupid gimmick TNA” land. Elevation X between AJ Styles and Rhyno. Boo! Why, on earth, did they pick this one to showcase their style? This is horrible!

Fourth match is King of the Mountain from Slammiversary 2007. Chris Harris (lol) vs AJ Styles (lots of him on here) vs Samoa Joe vs Christian Cage vs Kurt Angle. Not a bad choice to showcase their upper card guys (and Braden Walker).

Next match is the Steel Asylum (ten X stars, escape through the hole at the top of the cage). Curry Man vs Sonjay Dutt vs Consequences Creed vs Shark Boy vs Jimmy Rave vs Kaz vs Chris Sabin vs Alex Shelly vs Johnny Devine vs Jay Lethal. Another awesome X match where none of the guys in the match (except the MCMG) are on the video game. Odd. Still, a great showcase of the talent.

All in all, not a bad showing for a preview DVD and I think they’re going to find several new fans from it. Let’s hope the TV product improves or they’ll lose them all just as quickly ;)

thats nice, althought he game is straight up arcade like with REPEATED reversals and a low moveset

ND DQ and no count out

thats nice, although he game is straight up arcade like with REPEATED reversals and a low moveset

ND DQ and no count out

These are the reasons why i don’t like TNA Impact The Video Game.

    1. The options are not good to choose to have count outs, rope breaks, and not a very well interactive environment. Just like WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2008.

    2. You do the same moves over and over again. Everyone will agree with me. They don’t have any kind of roll up pins or anything special. They say this was going to be like WWF No Mercy the top best wrestling game they ever made back in the days and even WWF Warzone was great too. This is no WWF No Mercy nor WWF Warzone so they lied about that. I know THQ made the WWF games but you get my point.

    3. The game story mode is so stupid, i just stop playing the whole game and was on the tag team story mode part. I lost my fun in the game with the same bullshit you do in the game. I am going to take it back to gamestop and get something else.

    4. They announce this game back in 2005, and now it’s 2008. Midway had so much time to make this game more different then the WWE games they have out now but i guess the people that did this game at midway didn’t give a damn about the true TNA fans who knows they are more exciting moves they do on TNA on TV in which none of them on tv do the same moves over and over again. They don’t have the whole damn entrances of wrestlers on TNA impact video game which make a wrestling game cool to play to see the wrestlers entrance in the gaming world. People, I know you want to see the whole entrance of a wrestler at the show and on the game too because you pay good money to see these guys in the ring right? They don’t even have a create a stable mode in which would be great to see Team 3D, Motor City Machine Guns, LAX, and Beer Money coming out together and not one on one.

    5. The create a wrestler mode sucks badly. No type of cool styles to put on your wrestle. I couldn’t even fit my name of the wrestler. It was so sad. You couldn’t have a good move list in this game.

SO DONT BUY THE TRIALERS ARE JUST TO FOOL YOU.

  4. 313rd Perfectionist Says:

I second that John. Everything that John said is what I still stand by about this game. I went over my boy house to play it on the Xbox 360 (bc apparently, according to Gamerankings.com the 360 and PS3 have a strong leg up on the Wii version. Hell, even the PS2 version is ranked better!!). Within 5 minutes, I lost intrest. You mean to tell me this so-called game is supposed to be wrestling? Over the top arcade-y fighting is what I expected from this game and from Midway. However, one may say look at Ready 2 Rumble or Blitz. Well with both of those games, they showcased that said game was over the top. People catch on fire, wacky stuff happens. But with this, Midway put you under the impression (or me at least) that this was going to be a WRESTLING game. May not be to the extreme of simulation based as THQ tries and fails at so many times lately, but still a game that has roots of still feeling like a real wrestling match. Bottom line, the game sucks and DO NOT waste your money!

When I see this game, I think of those 4 pieces of garbage, WCW Mayhem, WCW Backstage Assault, Backyard Wrestling: There Goes the Neighborhood and Backyard Wrestling 2.

Frankly, Midway shoulda consulted the professionals on how to make this game. Somebody like AKI.

  5. Pole Foam Says:

Firstly I highly doubt these two comment makers credentials:
1- The ‘jsnWWF’ ooooh I wonder what company he likes? I cannot figure it out.
2- 313rd Perfectionist, they had AJ and Joe help make the game. Who else could they they have consulted?

No way WCW Mayhem, WCW Backstage Assault and the Backyard Wrestling are cult games. In Backyard wrestling games you can play as Vampiro and Sabu. The WCW ones were fun to play and had many options/innovations.

Overall if you dont like it, dont buy it but you cannot go around bad mouthing the game for weeks and weeks on end.

  6. Ian Says:

I’ve been playing it for a couple of days now and it’s poor, to say the least, it just feels so ‘arcadey’

No depth at all. Don’t buy it, rent it

I’m thinking they’ll learn from this and put out a ‘full’ game next time.

  7. john Says:

Pole Foam its not about the company, its midways fault

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE 2,000-3,000 motion captured moves?

I didnt buy SvR 08 cuz that game SUCKED!

    Take that!

PS, this is America we can say what we want and secondly we are saving people money with these reviews

  8. Kanadian Says:

Ad-Homonym attack, PF. Whether someone is biased or not shouldn’t effect how much they like a game.

And why shouldn’t the folks who don’t like it bad mouth the game for weeks on end? Apparently they bought/played the game and felt it was very bad; it would be stupid for them to not try and inform the public on whether or not it’s worth buying; that would be like someone buying a wrestling ppv and because they didn’t like it they don’t comment on the discussion to give their review. What are you, a Scientologiost? We got some information from Jade saying a lot of people are liking the game, you’re not telling him he cannot go around promoting how fun the game is. Have you played it yet, my xbox is broken so i haven’t had the chance to try it out (the game isn’t out for N64 is it?), but it seems you’ve had fun playing it, right?

  9. Lex Luthor Says:

Well, the one great thing about this TNA game is that it certainly got us talking about wrestling video games again. I think wrestling fans’ passion for video games has fallen off for the past several years since the WWE games have faced absolutely no competition. So from a competitive standpoint, at least we’re talking about these games again.

My main question is this: when I was looking at the box at Gamestop the other day, why didn’t AJ Styles and Kurt Angle bust through the window and start wrestling? I mean, it happened on the commercial, so I assumed it would happen for me.

  10. Pole Foam Says:

    John,
Smackdown series didnt suck, it just got tiring as they have released the same style of game 9 times, with slight improvements. On TNA’s game being arcadey, well it is midway producing it. Also you cannot really rely on other peoples reviews as everyone has different tastes and I doubt anyone of them work for video game magazines.

  11. Rob Dib Says:

ok… i won’t even rent this game if it sucks this bad. Why can’t they just play NO MERCY for awhile and figure out how a wrestling game should be.

  12. Pole Foam Says:

I am with Lex Luthor as its good for wrestling, the more products we have the better it is.

    Kanadian,
You shouldnt bad mouth something for weeks on end as it comes off as being bitter. The reason why I didnt bad mouth Jade is because he only said it once. Plus jsn and 313rd did not like the game to start off with.

Wow I am anti freedom of speech, stupid (adhomonym), a scientologist and poor as I still own a N64. All this for saying give TNA’s game a chance. Kanadian you need to get into the newspaper business because you let out more shit than an anus.

  13. 313rd Perfectionist Says:

Whoa, not to begin with? Actually I welcomed a new platform of wrestling after SvR ‘07 barely filled that void. I was curious about the game before I saw a gameplay trailer. Now I know one cant base their feelings on weather they’ll play it or not, but it was just something about the game from what I saw that turned me off to it somewhat. Then as time went by, I read more into the title like the forum posts that the IGN users asked Midway, and they gave them less than hopeful answers; which in turn further decreased my interest in the game. And by the time the game came out, I had less than high hopes that the game was gonna be marginally playworthy. Thats why I shit on it.

Also, Sabu was on those two ECW games Acclaim made. I actually found both of those games more entertaining than this TNA game.

  14. Kanadian Says:

I wasn’t bad mouthing you PF. I pointed out that you saying jsnwwf supposedly being biased against a company means his opinion is void is an adhomonym (which doesn’t mean stupid at all…). I went on to say that you saying, “Overall if you dont like it, dont buy it but you cannot go around bad mouthing the game for weeks and weeks on end.” is a flawed premise because it says that you should not give a review if it is a negative one, that’s what I got out of it, and I likened it to the media and internet censorship attempts made made the church of Scientology. I asked if you played it, and what you thought of it if so. I said that I only had a 64 because my Xbox was broken, so I don’t think you fully grasped what I was trying to say.

Whether or not bad mouthing something for weeks is being bitter or not sort of depends on if the bad mouthing is necessary or relevant, no? If people stop talking about the game after a few days then yes, it is bitter; however if discussion on how good the game is proceeds for weeks then i would not say it is being bitter.

So I didn’t say you were anti freedom of speech, stupid, or a Scientologist, and I certainly didn’t say you were poor because you still own an N46. I love my 64. I was not disagreeing that TNA’s game should be given a chance but rather people’s criticism of the game should be accepted.

  15. Lex Says:

    The N64 ruled!

  16. Jade Says:

Wow… And no comments about the DVD, which was my real reason for this post.

  17. jmart Says:

fantastic heres to n64!!!!!!! wcw nwo revenge!!!!!!! best game ever

  18. "The" Jsnwwf Says:

Smackdown 08 sucked because Shelton wasnt in the game, I think and because only 1 tag team was in the game, NOT including DX or Hardys

Cryme time was the only one, not the tag champs Cade/Murdoch

I could be wrong but that is what I read

    I WAS SERIOUSLY OUTDATED

  19. "The" Jsnwwf Says:

    I agree with 313rd

I couldnt wait to play it because of the hype

Then that interview soured the shit out of me

  20. Kanadian Says:

i’m sort of like that jsnwwf, but i’m still very interested in playing the game, to give it a chance because maybe it’s still kind of fun. so when my xbox gets fixed i’ll rent it.

  21. Pole Foam Says:

    Kanadian,
Firstly the anti freedom of speech was to John, and you did compare my comment to a person following scientology and right wing type of censoring. I accept I misunderstood your sentence about the N64 and yes it does rule.

But no matter how bad a game is, it cannot be that relevant in your life that you can bad mouth it for weeks on end. Not only that but bad mouth it before it is even released. You can write an essay on the subject, a book or even form a political party, but you still cannot justify that much burying of a game. I also will check it out on my PS3 as soon as I get some time.

Jsnwwf, you did a post a month back giving 7 opinionated reasons on why it would suck and that was before the IGN interview came out. Same with 313rd, who said some no name companies expect you to pay 60 dollars for a incomplete game, which was before the game was released. Now you two are saying you couldnt wait to play it? sure ‘wink wink’
