According to the TNA Impact! preview for next week on TNA’s web site, Jeff Jarrett is going to discuss Kurt Angle’s recent comments to the Sun newspaper in the UK:

According to multiple sources, Jeff Jarrett is angry over the recent comments made by Kurt Angle about TNA in the UK Sun Newspaper! Rumor has it that Jarrett - as the founder of TNA - will publicly address these controversial comments on Thursday’s broadcast on Spike. The question is, with Angle and Jarrett set to battle at Bound For Glory, could all hell break loose between the two TNA superstars on Thursday night?

If you didn’t see Kurt’s comments, here are a few of the quotes from the Sun interview:

“TNA do it because we want to be different from WWE and innovative. But what happens is sometimes we are, but then sometimes we are too old school. Let’s face it, a tar and feather match today wouldn’t go over too well. But we’ve actually done that. That’s a 1960’s match, this is 2008. We’re in an MMA world. Fans want to see mano a mano. One on one. Let’s go at it. We call ourselves Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. We say: “TNA” we are wrestling.” No we’re not. We’re f***ing gimmick matches.”

“At the last PPV, No Surrender, we had a triple threat main event between me, Christian Cage and Samoa Joe. We had a great match, but Samoa Joe won because Jeff Jarrett came in and hit me with a guitar. I would have won if Jeff didn’t do that. I believe that Joe should have kicked my ass and Christian’s ass and won straight up and then afterwards Jeff could have come in or even waited until the next night on TV and attacked me. I’m trying to make our younger guys more popular. I let AJ beat me the last four times we wrestled for a reason. To make him a bigger star. I wanted Joe to beat me and Christian at the PPV to make him a bigger star. But what’s been happening is we have run-ins to create the wins, so I get protected. I don’t want to be protected and I don’t need to be protected. I’m having a real struggle with it. We need to back up and realize who we are and what we’re trying to get across. We have the best wrestlers in the world, WWE can’t compare. But how do we use them to our advantage? By simply wrestling, because that’s what they’re good at.”

  1. jmart Says:

lol i bet you vince russo is up to this but its good though keeps the fans wondering if kurt was really shooting on tna

  2. Pole Foam Says:

This is the way wrestling should as then you cannot wait for the next show.

  3. jmart Says:

i agree impact the past 2 weeks has been great for building up bound for glory hopefully this will be a rebirth of some sorts like lex said for tna

  4. Lex Says:

Yeah, I’m digging this stuff as well.

Now, you have to wonder, how much of that interview was a set up. OR, was it Angle just shooting from the hip. Nice.

  5. mollie d. Says:

I agree that it has gone over board with the gimmick matches. I mostly watch now to see the knockouts go at it and to see christian, somoa joe, aj styles, sting and angle. I think Jarrett needs another head writer . But on the other hand if Angle was just talking smack it worked as I bet a lot of folks will buy this one just to see these 2 guys go at it.

  6. Kanadian Says:

This and Joe vs Sting are feuds TNA has really gotten me interested in. I hope they don’t break Kayfabe too much during the show, but this does make me want to watch.

  7. SCMike Says:

To be honest, this is bigger news -

    BOTCHAMANIA AND MAFFEW ARE GONE.

    FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. NO!!!

  8. Marty Says:

You guys are on crack or something right?! This is horrible! Once again, TNA are breaking the 4th wall and making idiots out of themselves. I know kayfabe died years ago, but you still cant put on a pro wrestling show and completely contradict it. First rough cut, now this. Fail.

  9. kitty Says:

im with marty all the way. This has ugly written all over it

  10. DynamiteKid Says:

so Marty, it’s OK if Triple Douche does it in WWE, but it’s not OK for anybody else?

It’s a great angle, and more importantly, it’s an entertaining angle, because that’s what wrestling is supposed to be.

  11. DaTruMeaning Says:

    …I don’t want to watch wrestling anymore…

    I miss kayfabe…

  12. 313rd Perfectionist Says:

Hm, its as if Russo is aware of the IWC complaints and has stringed us along to create this story . If it is a story, well I tip my hat to the man. He’ll know how to entice us, only to disapoint us with some stupid fued, that’ll lead up to some “______ on a pole” match.

  13. Lex Says:

At least give them a chance. I’m totally digging the Angle-Jarrett feud, and I think this adds to it. The one qualm I have is that Jarrett was so easily pushed into a match with Angle on Impact. It would have been better if there were two or three weeks of Angle making fun of Jarrett, and taking it further each week, until Jarrett snapped. That being said, I guess they don’t have enough time to build this feud like that since BFG is just around the corner.

  14. Pole Foam Says:

You know the point of wrestling is to be entertained and by the end of the show you want to see more. That is the point of wrestling or have we missed that while we were taking a toilet break?

But you know instead we can talk about the important stuff and raise some valid points like:

1-I dont like the fabric of JJ’s shirt and Angle should grow a goatee, so therefore this feud is going to blow.

2-That guys cute, yay 5 star match and it did not suck one bit.

  15. Pole Foam Says:

I am with Lex, Jmart and Dynamite Kid as I am liking this feud too.

  16. Lex Says:

Yeah, listen. I think there’s this whole anti-TNA thing going on. I have said in the past several months that I thought most of Impact! was garbage, but things seem to be turning around. It’s funny–no matter what, if it’s TNA, there are always going to be people who crap on it just because it’s TNA. It’s the same deal with the video game. Yes, the game is not that good, but people were crapping on it before it even came out.

  17. Joe Morgan Says:

I have seen every episode of impact and I have to say that the show is getting much better. At least I have reasons to watch the show.

If I ran TNA I most likely would have ran the sting angle. Although I wouldn’t have booked him in the championship match. The old school vs new school thing is intresting to me.

  18. Marty Says:

Dynamite Kid - I hate it just as much when Douche Douche Douche breaks kayfabe on Smackdown, but TNA breaks kayfabe EVERY WEEK with their rough cut segment. It totally ruins your suspension of disbelief, and makes the whole program seem silly.

Lex- I’m not ragging on TNA for the sake of it, I just really think this is a bad idea. Writers, bookers, spots and gimmicks were all mentioned in the interview, so is Jarrett going to be going out there and quoting Angle on this? Its asinine. Alas, i wont rag on it further until I actually see it, but to me it just sounds idiotic. If they bring up those kinds of terms on TV, then they might aswell just tell us that wrestling is scripted and just replace all the wrestling with MMA.

  19. 313rd Perfectionist Says:

    Joe Morgan–

Dude, how quick are you to forget when WCW did almost the same thing. New school vs Old School. In their case, they called it the New Blood (Shawn Stasiak, Chuck Paulumbo, I think Vince Russo and some other wreslters) against the Millionares Club (Sting, Flair, and a buncha old farts).

I personally didnt care for it, but I clearly remember that being the big fued of the company after the last remnants of the NWO had finally died off. But from the look of things, TNA is doing the exact same thing here.

  20. Rob Dib Says:

I really miss the early NWO days by the way.

Anyhow I love the feuds in TNA right now. Finally some emotion, even Sting looks like he cares about his cause. It’s pretty cool. I am a Samoa Joe hater yet I even want to see BFG for their match.

As far as Kurt/Jarrett feud, it is just as enticing as the other.

Honestly though, AJ Styles needs to be in the title picture consistently. The Trigg match was a complete was of his and our time.

  21. DynamiteKid Says:

313rd, that is true, but please show me one angle in wrestling that hasn’t been done before. There truly is nothing new under the sun. It’s ALL been done before.

My one complaint with the angle is why on earth Foley would be on the young punks side? He would be one of the older guys that’s not getting any respect, but I guess JJ is going to make the new signing a face even if it makes no sense.

Rob Dib: very good point. AJ is just too good to be wasting his talent on some ex MMA hack.

And there’s no point being anti-TNA or anti-WWE for that matter. It’s all there for you. Watch it and be entertained or not. But don’t have an opinion before watching it for yourself.

  22. Lex Says:

    Marty,

Lex- I’m not ragging on TNA for the sake of it, I just really think this is a bad idea. Writers, bookers, spots and gimmicks were all mentioned in the interview, so is Jarrett going to be going out there and quoting Angle on this? Its asinine. I don’t think they have to necessarily break kayfabe…he can selectively quote from the comments and keep it in kayfabe. I’ll be interested to see what he has to say.

  23. graant Says:

The great thing about fueds like this is alot of elements have place in kayfabe

if you think about it, terms like ‘carrying a company’ ‘holding talent down’ ‘glass ceiling’ can all and have been incoporated fine in to kayfaybe in a way where it also has a double meaning to the fans who are a bit smarter to the business.

Say what you like about Russo but he does hit gold every once in a while.

  24. Lex Says:

Russo’s no Freddie Prinze, that’s for sure.
