Three weeks ago, if you’d have asked me whether or not I was ordering Bound For Glory, I’d have a quick response for you: yes, I am–I dig the “Respect” storyline and Bound For Glory is always TNA’s best PPV of the year.

Unfortunately, the “respect” storyline has fallen a bit by the wayside, outside of the rushed AJ Styles/Booker T/Christian Cage build-up. What was a guaranteed order for me has become a “not likely.” I’m wondering if a lot of people out there feel the same way?

I’ve had some last-second thoughts about ordering, but I’m not sure I can justify spending $34.95 on this show. If TNA wants this to be the “biggest show of the year,” I think they need to do a lot more to build the entire card, not half-ass a bunch of  matches on the episode before the show.

For example, I’ve been watching Impact! every week, but it’s hard for me to tell you who is in the “Steel Asylum” match or why they are even having it. Also, why is the X Division title build so last-minute? They didn’t even decide who would be challenging for it until Thursday’s Impact!, and because it was so late in the game, they HAD to go with the easy way out–a patriotic character challenging a Muslim.

I will say this–even if you’re in agreement with me that the build has been sub-par, the one thing you can count on with this show is the wrestlers working their asses off. That’s what keeps TNA going, because it’s definitely not the booking. If I do order this show, it’s because of the wrestlers like AJ, Joe, Kurt and the X-Division guys that work so hard.

Regardless, here’s tonight’s card, courtesy TNAWrestling.com:

  1. jmart Says:

i agree i might order this soley on jarret vs angle and sting vs joe not cause of the angles but the matches
and the rest of the card i could give a 2 shits about

  2. Pole Foam Says:

They wont be able to replicate 2006 Bound For Glory as the booking is poor but the plus side is that theres alot of great wrestlers on the card and on the night who knows what can happen.

  3. jsnwwf Says:

Pole, you mean 2007 Bound for Glory, right?

Last year’s was PPV of the year

    2006 was Sting vs Jarrett

  4. jsnwwf Says:

excuse my English but WHY THE HELL does a match that HAS NO RULES and encourages anarchy need a special referee to RESTORE order?

  5. Pole Foam Says:

    Jsnwwf,

2006 was also great all round, LAX v Daniels & AJ tag team match, X Division match Sabin/Senshi, Christian v Rhino, Monsters Ball with Jake Roberts as guest referee, Kurts Debut and altercation between Joe and Kurt. Sting v JJ was decent enough.

  6. The Original Nick Says:

I’m ordering this solely for the Bimbo Brawl.

On that note, do they consider Rhino and Kip James Knockouts now?

  7. jsnwwf Says:

    I got:

    Kong
    Joe, although Cage may interfere
    Angle - CLEAN!
Booker T via Styles accidentally hitting Cage, even though its a triple threat
    Machismo wins CLUSTERFUCK
    BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE wins
Beer Money retains - 3D PROMISED FIRE ON iMPACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Bashir retains

ODB shouldnt have to be in the opening 3 person tag match, she should be in the Women’s title match for being the most ever impact woman on the show

  8. Pole Foam Says:

Is the original Nick, the actual original Nick? the one that was part of the first pwb era (2006) which consisted of Mollie D, Nick, SrColostimizer and Lex Luthor?

  9. jsnwwf Says:

lol @ 3 main eventers getting a last second PPV matche

    Christian, Booker, and AJ

  10. Lex Says:

    PF,

I’ve loved every Bound For Glory before this. Last year’s wasn’t quite as good as 2006, but the main event between Sting and Angle was really awesome.

I look at this card, and I figure the main event and Jarrett v. Angle will be good. Monster’s Ball should be a fun hardcore match. I’d like to see Roxxi win the Knockouts Title, that would be cool. Outisde of that, I really don’t care.

  11. jsnwwf Says:

where can I find old PWB podcasts? I think I joined in episode 26

  12. jsnwwf Says:

Match of the Night: Monster’s Ball

    Worst match: X division match

Bad booking: Main event I see it coming

  13. jsnwwf Says:

Samoa Joe has gained a lot of wait since 05, A LOT

  14. SCMike Says:

Wait, there’s a TNA PPV tonight? Lemme set my alarm for 7:45 Pacific so I can look for the results at said time. In all seriosuness though, I’m kind of curious to see this train wreck live, stream anyone? Does Justin.TV have a TNA stream?

Also, PF - Little trivia about my discovery of TNA: That Senshi v. Sabin X Div. BFG 06 match is what made me start to watch TNA full time.

As for the “WHOYAGOT!?” part of this post -

    Joe goes over clean
    Jarrett
    Styles
    LAX get the titles
    Creed new champ
    Wilde retains
Asylum: I donno. Petey Pump? WHO IS IN THE X DIVISION DAMMIT??!!?!
Angelina Love’s Breasts and Velvet Sky’s Buttcheeks featuring Kute Kip’s ambiguously gay character go over.

Also, how the fuck did Raka Kahn go to face? Anyone?

  15. Lex Says:

    JSN,

    They aren’t online anymore.

  16. Lex Says:

OK, I’ve officially decided not to order this one. If it’s any good, I’ll check it out later.

I’ve got the next two days off work, so I figure I’ll order ROH’s last show on demand, anyway, and that’s a LOT cheaper.

  17. Lex Says:

By the way, all, I need a new podcast poll, so feel free to suggest…

  18. jsnwwf Says:

Actually I got Curryman winning this

  19. SCMike Says:

Yea, lemme change my pic to CD too.

  20. Pole Foam Says:

    Lex,
Yeah this one doesnt have the matches to stand up to previous years. Monsters ball’s are always fun, in 2005 that Jeff Hardy bump and Sabu pulled out a few moves too.

TNA has really forgotten what made it different like the standout X Division, booking a few ex ecw wrestlers and having a standout Tag Team Division. Thats why there are 2-3 matches missing on this card.

  21. jsnwwf Says:

What was your favorite TNA Bound for Glory match?

  22. SCMike Says:

Asylum is up first, I guess the Union pulled the TNA workers to do it before teh show so it doesn’t interrupt the GREAT FLOW OF THIS PPV. Not.

  23. SCMike Says:

Very good spotfest so far in this Asylum

  24. SCMike Says:

    Running Canadian Destroyer to Shelley!

  25. SCMike Says:

Devine botches a move and almost kills Rave

  26. SCMike Says:

    Damn, Lethal wins.

  27. SCMike Says:

They plug the live IMPACT on PPV, uhm WTF?

Foley is introduced, Beauties come in, and they only want the blue M&Ms. They throw the other colored M&M’s @ Mick, and he catches them in his mouth. I like it.

  28. SCMike Says:

    Just me watching this?

  29. SCMike Says:

I had a heart attaack when Velvet’s buttcheeks came out, uhm, Kute Kip did a stripper type of thing on the ropes _ HILARIOUS! THey introduced Raka from “the isle of Man” uhm what? and Rhino is as stale as ever.

Curtis Granderson (CF for the underachieveing DET Tigers) in attendance @ BFG 08

  30. SCMike Says:

Rhino was gonna gore Velvet’s buttcheeks. NO MYSOGYNY and Kip stops it. Kip and Raka try to chokeslam one another. Uhm, ok… Raka grabs Kip’s package, this is sad…Linda Miles 2.0 IMO…ODB is huge over in Chi town.

  31. jmart Says:

lol no cub players in attendance lol i assume there still in mourning of there lost to Phillies which right now bott of the first 1 to 0 dodgers im still hoping for a dodger win here

  32. SCMike Says:

Jeez, a bunch of comedy and stalling, wrestling kind of picks up, Kip goes for FameAsser, Rhino gores him. 1, 2, 3.

Creed cuts a promo and I couldnt care less

  33. Lex Says:

    JSN,

It’s too hard to say what my favorite BFG match is. I loved Christian v. Rhino and LAX v. AMW from the 2006 show. I also thought last year’s main event, Angle v. Sting, was suprisingly phenomenal. But I think I have to go back to AJ v. Chris Daniels at BFG 2005 in an ironman match…

  34. SCMike Says:

    jmart -

Fuck LAD. I’m a Giants fan.

  35. jsnwwf Says:

    http://www.justin.tv/live_wweshow

    IS STREAM

  36. Lex Says:

Glad to see people finally discussing TNA for once…sometimes I wonder if anyone is actually watching Impact! live.

  37. jmart Says:

jamie moyer sucks so im assuming the dodgers will take this one

  38. jsnwwf Says:

X division match last year was my Match of the Year after Cena/HBK

    I think LAX won that

  39. SCMike Says:

They bring out this Sgt. a fmr. Iraq vet (an indy wrestler, I suppose) Sheik came out before him, and expect some sweet exploitation coming from TNA in 3, 2, 1

  40. jmart Says:

lol giants fan? there horrible i love baseball but i cant watch them play its like watching a bad minor league team play

  41. jmart Says:

lex i sometimes do but i love dvr so much haha i hate commercials

  42. SCMike Says:

Sheik yells shit @ the Sgt. and Creed attacks from behind to start he match. A huge plancha spot, and Creed hi 5’s DW/Tenay…this is so Russo’s wok….

  43. jsnwwf Says:

    Iron Sheik helps Bashir! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  44. SCMike Says:

    jmart -

it’s called rebuilding. You know NOTHING abhout baseball, sir. If you knew anything about them, you’d know they have grade B stock on all of their roster atm. It’s a young team, led by Lincecum, Bengie, Aaron Rowand, and Randy Winn.

  45. Lex Says:

What do you guys think about Bashir/Davari as a wrestler? I enjoy his character development, but he’s never really stood out to me in the ring. In fact, I don’t think either of these guys are the right ones to have wrestling over the X Title.

  46. jmart Says:

haha i actually know alot about baseball i just dont like the giannts they suck

  47. SCMike Says:

Bashir retains. Donno how. My stream stopped, meh, didnt really care though…

  48. jsnwwf Says:

    Damn

I thought saying it would actually help make it come true

    No Iron Sheik

    anyway, Creed kicked out

so so match even though he wasnt suppose to

    Bashir win, no sheik

  49. jsnwwf Says:

    Shieed: Why are you Here

Foley: I am filling in for Cornette

Shieed: Silence! It doesnt matter why you are here

Foley: Hey, thats gimmick infringement, The Rock wont like that! I have him on speed dial

    lol

  50. jsnwwf Says:

    http://www.justin.tv/live_wweshow

    perfect quality no lag

  51. SCMike Says:

Seeing the KO title hype video makes me realize something

“I HATE HOW TNA HAS WOMEN BLADING”

    That is all.

Jmart - back up your statemen, please.

  52. jmart Says:

but i will say this scmike the giants has some of the fastest guys in baseball werent they 6th place for stolen bases in 2007

  53. Lex Says:

Let’s go Roxxi…did you guys hear that Roxxi brings a hardcore aspect to the Knockout division? I hadn’t heard that before.

  54. jsnwwf Says:

did TNA think that the voodoo gimmick would get anyone over in this day in age?

  55. Lex Says:

JSN, it is a good stream, nice quality even full screen….

  56. jmart Says:

oh and i been watching baseball since i was about 10 and learned as much as i watched in ny when david cone pitched a perfect game i was in ny when sorino got his first ever base hit rbi and run to help the yanks clinch the division so yeah i know my baseball so theres my back up scmike

  57. Mr Happy Says:

This KO match is pretty good

  58. Lex Says:

Think about this. 1,861 viewers on that stream right now. Multiply that by 34.95…that’s like 65,000 dollars. LOL.

  59. jmart Says:

lol and i wont be talking about baseball sorry im passionate in October

  60. Lex Says:

How does a kick to Kong’s butt break up a three count?

  61. jmart Says:

lol good observation has the ppv been good so far or is it not up to standards for bound for glory

  62. Mr Happy Says:

    That was abrupt

  63. Lex Says:

Ugh, Taylor Wilde wins while Kong is out of the ring. LAME.

  64. jmart Says:

maybe her ass is so big that when you kick it its earth shattering

  65. jsnwwf Says:

boring ending to a good match

    Why did Kong not win???????????????????

  66. jsnwwf Says:

    very very short

10 more minutes and it could have been match of the night

  67. Mr Happy Says:

Here’s where the show really starts

  68. jsnwwf Says:

    2,400 LOL

  69. jsnwwf Says:

I think im liking this whole “Mick Foley as GM” thing

    Get Cornette out of there

Have Jarrett Fire him on iMPACT!

  70. Mr Happy Says:

    This should be a war

  71. jsnwwf Says:

match of the night = Monster’s Ball

    here we go

  72. Mr Happy Says:

No match of the night will be AJ/Booker/Cage

  73. jsnwwf Says:

    new link

    http://www.justin.tv/obama_barack

  74. Lex Says:

    Feed is crapping out now…

  75. jsnwwf Says:

Mr Happy, that match will end with cage turning or some horrible booking

  76. jsnwwf Says:

    WTF WAS THAT?

    WORST PIN COUNT EVER!

  77. Lex Says:

    abyss is ON FIRE!!!!

  78. jsnwwf Says:

The announcer sold the fire so badly

They basically are going on as if it didnt happen 10 seconds ago, WOW

We need new announcers badly, for real

  79. jsnwwf Says:

    horrifying 3 count

  80. Lex Says:

Wow. Beer Money steals it. So far, this has been pretty lame in terms of people winning the matches…

  81. Mr Happy Says:

I wanted Beer money to win

  82. jsnwwf Says:

    AJ AJ AJ AJ AJ

Moonsault from the top rope to the outside!

  83. Lex Says:

OK, I’m done with this for the night. At this point, really glad I didn’t order, regardless of what happens in the last couple of matches. I think I’d rather watch True Blood/Entourage/Californication.

  84. jsnwwf Says:

    booker wins clean

  85. jsnwwf Says:

    this PPV has sucked

  86. jmart Says:

wtf im so glad i didnt order this

  87. DynamiteKid Says:

True Blood was excellent tonight Lex.

  88. jsnwwf Says:

Jarrett came back and lost to Robert Roode and they pretend that that never happened

He put Roode over during that Eric Young/Roode storyline but “he hasnt been in a wrestling ring in 2 years”

    riiiiiight

    bad PPV

  89. Batista Blog: Team Gnarfard's Responsible Blogging at its Finest! Says:

    TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Champion Samoa Joe vs. “The Icon” Sting

    TNA GRUDGE MATCH
“King Of The Mountain” Jeff Jarrett vs. Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle
    Special Enforcer: Mick Foley

    THREE WAY MATCH
Booker T (w/ Sharmell) vs. “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles

I think those three matches alone were worth the $35…
    but what the heck?
why does TNA have such amazing main-eventers, but no-name midcarders? :\

  90. Big Macc Says:

Don’t turn your bacc on the wolfpac
cuz you might go home in a bodybag

  91. jsnwwf Says:

Are you fucking kidding me TNA?

The last 5 PPVs have ended in a ref bump or interferrence

Christian, for my sake go back to WWE

You, Angle, Joe, AJ, and Curryman are the only reason I watch SPIKE TV!

I cant believe ther did that to end their BIGGEST PPV of the year, UGH

    …………..and why wouldnt they?

  92. Arron Says:

Someone please tell me why the hell they put the strap on Sting?

Someone please tell me, I don’t normally get pissed with bad TNA decisions like this, but this takes the frickin cake.

And Joe is out of the title picture until Sting drops the strap.

OH I AM PISSED RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  93. Rob Dib Says:

I really liked the ending of the ppv.

    Maybe that is just me

    Rob Dib
    http://www.prowrestling-gear.com

  94. sideshowraheem Says:

LMAO Sting is the champ LOL you suckers watched this while I saw “The Wrestler” almost the entire cast was there. I don’t know if this PPV was any good but staring at Marisa Tomei and Naomi Watts from 50 feet away was awesome.

  95. DynamiteKid Says:

hmm. Sting or HHH. I’ll take Sting thanks. At least Sting will drop the belt when asked, probably at the next PPV.

Joe was stale with the strap anyway. Now AJ has a shot at it.

And Smart Wrestling Fan has really jumped the shark when it comes to TNA coverage. It wouldn’t matter now if Impact was the best wrestling show ever, because every thing TNA does they nitpick to death. And great idea to have 15 minutes of Japanese wrestling reports. Cue 99.9% of listeners turning off.

  96. The Original Nick Says:

    Pole Foam-

Yea this is Nick from the original pwb

  97. Lex Says:

    DK,

I used to listen to that podcast, but it became very repetitive, so I quit. I can only listen to so much of recapping wrestling shows that I’ve already seen, especially when they start saying the same phrases and stuff over and over again.

  98. Lex Says:

After reading the results on the rest of this show, it’s clear that it was the worst BFG ever.

But hey, maybe they can bring back the nWo wolfpac and call it something else…lol.

  99. jrock Says:

I thought the Sting Joe match was awesome.I jumped out of my seat when joe dove off the balcony!

  100. jsnwwf Says:

    best part of the PPV

  101. Jeyrod Says:

I am done with TNA. I was one of the only people here who watched it every week. Fuck TNA

  102. Lex Says:

Abyss suffered burns on his arm because the people with the fire extinguisher didn’t fully extinguish him.

  103. Pole Foam Says:

SCMike yes that X division match in 2006 was amazing.

The Original Nick good to see you.

The ppv was very poor overall but Sting winning is not bad as he is a legend and he usually drops the belt in one ppv.

  104. Lex Says:

I have no problem with Sting winning or with Nash’s interfering. It just sounds like to me the end was not scripted well. No way in hell Sting would win the belt w/o interference, so to further their “respect” storyline, I’m assuming they had to go that route.

And yeah, Nick, welcome back man!

  105. The Original Nick Says:

I don’t like the way they arranged the match outcomes.

After Bashir, Wilde, and Beer Money retained the titles, it was painfully obvious that Sting was going to walk out champion. I mean, they have to have a major title change at the biggest show of the year, right?

Also, I feel they really dropped the ball on having Bashir and Wilde retain. Creed and Roxxi winning would have been 2 feel “good moments”.

  106. Pole Foam Says:

    Sideshow,
Did you make a move on Marisa Tomei or Naomi Watts?

  107. DynamiteKid Says:

I think they dropped the ball on the Jeff Jarrett outcome. He’s the big face, high-ethics guy, and yet he has to get outside interference and use a weapon to win? That makes no sense. A much better outcome would have been Foley swerving Jarrett and helping Angle. Now that would have been special.

  108. SCMike Says:

Dont want to sound like a TNA apologist but, I think TNA realizes that Kurt Angle is the bigger star when next to JJ, no matter what. No fan in or out of kayfabe would buy a Jarret clean pin on Angle. I don’t think the decision is that bad, tbh.

And yes, Foley swerve would have been nice to see

  109. Lex Says:

Yeah, I really thought Foley would turn on Jarrett and side with Angle. Maybe that’s why they didn’t do it…because it would have been a bit obvious.

  110. DynamiteKid Says:

I agree, I don’t think JJ should have gone over at all. Angle should have won clean or with Foley’s help. As it stands now it’s a real mess. I’m assuming Angle will attack Foley during his “retirement” speech next week starting an Angle/Foley feud.

  111. Lex Says:

    DK,

According to the net, that’s the plan…I don’t think Foley can wrestle at this stage, though. I just don’t get it. Hopefully he’s training.

  112. 313rd Perfectionist Says:

Sideshow you lucky bastard. You got to stare at hot chicks 50ft away from you AND you got to see the Wrestler. Was the movie good at least?

    ****My Thoughts On the Show****

I gave up on that stream bc it kept re-buffering and the people in the chat were fucking ignorant. Never in my life would I imagine so many fucking morons blabbing about nothing in one place.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to book Mongo as special guest ref needs to be lynched and burned alive.

Sting being world champ is a very stupid move. Although I will admit Joe being champ was getting stale. The way I see it, it wasn’t his fault though. The way he was booked, the storylines the writers put him in…just wasn’t the same as him wearing the strap in ROH.

One good thing I can say is I really liked the design for the BFG Poster. Very reminiscent of The Untouchables.

  113. SCMike Says:

    http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/Microgalleries/TNABFG2008/2008/10/13/match5_1.jpg

  114. Lex Says:

    What was with Mongo’s haircut?

For me, the highlight of the show was watching them try to open the thumbtacks.

  115. Kanadian Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, I did call Sting winning live during the last PWBite Rant webcast. Am I a genious or what? No. It was quite obvious. I wish they didn’t do this, but you knew this was coming because Joe’s title run has been crappy, boring and such, so nothing good could come of this. I shouldn’t say that, this could be good, but Sting is crappy, well, at least has not been great.
