Phil Baroni Gets Headbutted After Cage Rage Fight

Written by Lex on Sunday, July 13th, 2008 in Cage Rage.

Last night’s Phil Baroni-Scott Jansen Cage Rage main event featured a brutal knockout of Jansen by Baroni, but the fight didn’t end there–just after the fight ended, one of Jansen’s party headbutted Phil Baroni.

The headbutt has been played up on the Internet, but the great thing is, it doesn’t even phase Baroni. You can see the entire thing on the video above. The headbutt occurs about 4:40 in. Hopefully this will stay on YouTube for a while.

Frank Shamrock

Ian and I interviewed MMA legend Frank Shamrock today for the most recent episode of PWB’s Podcast Hotline. Of course, we asked Frank about his plans for his next fight. Here’s what Frank had to say:

“My goal for my next fight is to fight Ken, to fight my brother Ken, to have a brother versus brother match.”

Frank expanded on the idea of a brother versus brother match:

“I think that’s a huge fight that everybody gets–easy to understand. You could use it as a huge promotional vehicle because it’s got such a great hook in it, and I think it’s just a huge fight, so I’ve been working hard on that one.”

When I wished him luck at the end of the show and told him we hoped to see brother versus brother sometime soon, he said this:

“First quarter of next year, I’ll get it done.”

Even though speculation had died down about a potential Shamrock v. Shamrock fight after Ken’s loss to “Buzz” Berry in Cage Rage, it looks like we might see the fight come to fruition early next year.

The full interview with Frank Shamrock is now available at the Podcast Hotline site.

It was a night of KO’s at Wembley Arena yesterday. The most important of the night was in the main event as Ken Shamrock was KO’d in round 1 by Robert ‘Buzz’ Berry. All but two of the fights ended in the first round in what was a crazy night of MMA. It was particularly sad to see ‘The worlds most dangerous man’ beaten in his first fight for 17 months.

Forgive the pun but Ken seemed very ‘cagey’. It made sense for Ken to fight like that due to the fact that ‘Buzz’ is a KO artist. Ken landed a couple of punches as I waited for him to ’shoot’ on Berry…but it never came. In the 3:26 fight, Ken didn’t attempt to takedown Berry.

I was in attendance last night and seeing Ken get KO’d was a sour note on an otherwise explosive night of MMA action. The televised fights came across pretty well live and it was an awesome atmosphere all night. Apart from the fact that the majority of fans booed as soon as any fight went to the ground. These idiots just want to see blood spilled and don’t appreciate mixed martial arts.

The main event of Cage Rage 26 has been announced as the returning Ian ‘The Machine’ Freeman faces off against Paul Cahoon at the NEC Arena, Birmingham in May. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Freeman fight for the first time since September 2006. Freeman holds a first round TKO victory over Frank Mir back at UFC 38.

Ken Shamrock Knocked Out at Cage Rage 25

Written by Lex on Sunday, March 9th, 2008 in Cage Rage, EliteXC.

If you didn’t catch Cage Rage 25 last night on Showtime, you missed an entertaining show. In what might be considered an upset in the main event, 37-year-old Robert “Buzz” Berry knocked out Ken Shamrock at 3:46 in the first round. Shamrock, who said on the PWB Podcast Hotline that he’s currently in the best shape of his life, couldn’t stop Berry, who had a decided size advantage over Shamrock.

Ken Shamrock Says Kimbo Slice is Beatable

Written by Lex on Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 in Cage Rage, EliteXC.

Ken Shamrock

On last week’s podcast hotline, Ian and I had the pleasure of interviewing MMA legend Ken Shamrock. Among other things, Shamrock discussed a potential fight with Kimbo Slice in EliteXC. Here’s what he had to say about the big man:

“You know, it’s funny. People ask me, ‘what, are you crazy, you’d fight him?’ And it’s like, listen, ‘once a warrior, always a warrior.’ I don’t care if I was in a wheelchair, if somebody asked me to fight, wanted me to fight somebody, I’d fight him. That’s just my heart, that’s just who I am. And whether I think that I’ve got a chance or not, what being in a wheelchair I’d still fight them. But I believe that Kimbo is very beatable, you know, I’m not just saying that because there’s an opportunity there. You know what, the guy’s young, he’s big, he’s strong, he’s had some success, but anybody that is a veteran in this sport understands that unless you have a lot of time in the ring, that you do not, and you have not been tested completely on what you’re about, and I believe Kimbo has not been tested, and I believe that I have the ability to test him and his weaknesses.”

And you know what? I think he does. It will be interesting to see how Ken looks in his fight this weekend against Robert Berry, but if we see a good outing from him, it may mean his next fight will be against Kimbo. On the podcast, Ken talked about how he’s feeling great now and he’s no longer affected by injuries. Kimbo v. Shamrock just might be a lot more competitive than some people seem to think.

If you haven’t listened to the interview yet, be sure to check it out. Ken had some very interesting things to say about Kurt Angle and Frank Shamrock, as well.

Cage Rage 25

Written by Ian on Monday, March 3rd, 2008 in Cage Rage.

This Saturday night it’s going to be Cage Rage 25 over here in England. I’m eagerly anticipating the main event as we’ll see the MMA return of UFC hall-of-famer, Ken Shamrock. He’ll be going up against Robert Berry. According to wikipedia this is the televised card:

  • Ken Shamrock VS. Robert Berry
  • Masakazu Imanari VS. Jean Silva
  • Gary Turner VS. Mustapha Al Turk
  • Tom Watson VS. Pierre Guillet

Ken’s son, Ryan Shamrock will be fighting on the undercard as well. I’m attending the show this Saturday so I’ll make sure to check back next week with my thoughts on the show. The Cage Rage shows I’ve seen so far have been pretty entertaining and I’m sure this show will be no different. I’m very eager to see if Ken has any ring rust. His last fight was against Tito Ortiz back in October 2006.

So make sure to check out Cage Rage 25 this Saturday.

US cable giant and PPV specialist, Showtime will be broadcasting the event and Sky Sports will be covering the event in the UK.
