Smackdown is hearable again

I was thoroughly impressed with Foley. Sideshow, Edge/Taker at Backlash may have felt like it was a better match probably because of the announcing, but it wasn’t. Foley did a great job and I can not emphasis how much of an improvement it was comparing him to Coach.

Here you go:

17/18 10 min parts Part 18 is the HHH win/celebration

Who is next for Taker? Umaga?
Who is next for Taker now that Edge is “injured?”

This was a an average to good PPV.

We got little to no gimmicks and good wrestling. Hardy/MVP was good. HBK/Batista was a show stealer only because of HBK. IM not sure why Jericho was emparsail though. It would be nice to see a heel Jericho feud with Taker.Khali/Big Show was ok. Taker/Edge was ok. Main event was good. I really enjoy Elimination matches over the other types because there is a definitive winner.

There wasnt any Kennedy, Umaga, Finlay, CM Punk, or tag team match

Has Jericho ever faced Taker???

Pops of the night:
Cena gets pinned by Orton
Triple H wins title
HBK sweet chin music
Hardy wins!!!
“You cant wrestle” to Khali

Grade: B

WWE Backlash Discussion: MVP v. Matt Hardy

Written by Lex on Sunday, April 27th, 2008 in Uncategorized.

Editor’s Note: As always, no posting over this until tomorrow!

Tonight’s is the WWE Backlash PPV. That’s right, a show that will live in infamy. Why, you ask? Well, because the Big Show and The Great Khali are having a wrestling match (and I use the term wrestling loosely). I’d love to hear someone to attempt to defend that match (”Lex, really, it might actually be ok!”)

On the brightside, MVP and Matt Hardy are wrestling. You might be able to make the case that HBK v. Batista will be good too, but who knows.

That’s pretty much all I have to say on this one. Let’s discuss it!

Here’s the card:

  • World Heavyweight Championship: Edge v. Undertaker(c)
  • Fatal Four Way for the WWE Championship: JBL v. HHH v. John Cena v. Randy Orton(c)
  • Big Show v. The Great Khali
  • U.S Championship: MVP(c) v. Matt Hardy
  • ECW Championship: Chavo Guerrero v. Kane(c)
  • Batista v. Shawn Michaels
  • 12 Diva Tag Team “match”

Is Anybody Buying This?

So, WWE Backlash is upon us. It’s the first WWE PPV after Wrestlemania, and it features the first Undertaker vs Edge rematch, the 4-way Elimination Match for the WWE Title, everybody’s favorite The Great Khali vs Big Show, and Mick Foley on color with Michael Cole. My Question to PWB is: Are you buying this?

WWE’s New PPV Format: I’m Lovin’ It

Written by Lex on Thursday, May 17th, 2007 in Uncategorized.

Sure, the brand extension isn’t dead, but with WWE’s second official tri-brand PPV coming up (obviously, not counting Wrestlemania 23), things are looking pretty good.

It looks to be a given that we’ll be seeing all three major titles defended at every PPV now. At least until ECW is contracted. Outside of the three title matches, though, it looks like we’re going to get some variety, and I think that’s why this new PPV plan is going to turn out to be a winner.

Back in the dark days of single-brand PPVs (ahem, two months ago…), we pretty much knew what we were going to get on every show, and much of that involved boring undercard feuds that no one cared about. Fast-forward to Judgment Day, and I’m more interested in the bottom of the card than I am the top! Benoit and MVP battling in a best two of three falls match? Hell yeah! Carlito and Ric Flair feuding? Oddly, I’m interested. Elijah Burke and CM Punk getting a chance to impress fans on PPV? Another winner. Even HBK v. Orton, which was thrown together at the last moment, is a match that I’m interested in seeing.

Another positive thing about the new PPV format is that each TV show doesn’t have the pressure of trying to build up an entire PPV every other month. A lot of the angles we’ll see now on Raw and Smackdown won’t result in a PPV match, which is fine by me. Hopefully the writers will actually put more thought into developing a complete TV show instead of trying to cobble together a single-brand PPV without enough talent. A great example of this is the Hardyz/Cade and Murdoch feud that has developed out of Backlash. That’s been a very entertaining angle in my opinion, and will have more time to play out over the next month before Vengeance.

Now if they could just fix the main events…we’d be set.
